It’s July and that means football is right around the corner…. For the fantasy fanatics like me who are getting that itch for Sunday afternoons of flipping between games and tallying up stats, it’s time to start putting together your cheat sheets (like you haven’t already). Here is my July take on the top 20.
- LT - no brainer. This guy runs, catches and even throws TD’s.
- Steven Jackson - Honestly, if I could be sure he would play the first 5 games like he always plays the last 8, I would have him at #1.
- Larry Johnson - How can he not be getting the contract he deserves? If contract issue lingers, it hurts value.
- Frank Gore - I am not quite sold on the hype yet, but he deserves to be this high after last season.
- Joseph Addia - He is good, but it isn’t his talent that gets him this high, it’s that Indy offense. Addia gets many open field looks due to their receiving game.
- Stephen Alexander - I think he is going to rebound again this year to solid numbers, but Seattle isn’t in good enough shape for a monster year.
- Brian Westbrook - Multi-talented. Last year showed he could carry the ball and still get the receiving numbers. If he stays healthy, he easily get to #7, but health is always the issue.
- Rudi Johnson - Also benefits from potent air attack offense. Very solid and dependable for excellent stats each season.
- Lawerence Maroney - Featured back in a big offense this year. Has explosion cuts up the field.
- Willy McGahee - Fitting in just fine in Baltimore and looking for a big year.
- Steve Smith -The first WR on the board. As long as someone can throw to him he’ll put up the numbers.
- Chad Johnson - Really Smith or SJ go 1 or 2 from WR. Both can have HUGE games.
- Reggie Bush - Watch for last years rook to step it up even more. Gets yards from all over the field, and anytime he has the ball it can turn into a TD. Will carry the ball more this season and be ready to go from game 1 on.
- Wille Parker - Pitt is finally going to throw more and that should actually free up Mr. Parker a little more even if it means less carries.
- Peyton Manning - Only QB in the top 20. Slipped a little last year with no Edge, fatasy wise, but won the Superbowl - go figure.
- Cedric Benson - Others have him lower. I say watch out for him now that he is a featured back in a run offense.
- Edge James - Leinhart is in his second year, they improved the “O”line…. Should be a better year for Edge in Zona.
- Travis Henry - Top 12 in many rankings, but I think he will get hurt. Remember Buffalo, always hurt.
- Maurice Jones-Drew -In limited role last year he went crazy. If he starts to get the majority of touches, watch out. Runs through and over defenders.
- Ronnie Brown - Very solid but hasn’t been exceptional yet. Probably because Miami has been horrible on offense. If they can keep the ball longer he will have a great year as he wears defenders down.
