Priest who? Holmie the who? Am I hearing this right? Is Priest Holmes really considering a comeback after 22 months of being off to a team which has Larry Johnson? Oh wait…. wait, wait, wait, wait…. LJ is in the middle of a contract dispute. Isn’t that convenient timing. Priest Holmes who had been completely written off for retirement is considering a comeback at the exact same time the team seems to have no one at RB… hmmmmm… a dream…. right.
Regardless, one month away from the season starting this is still big fantasy news. For a few years Priest Holmes did his best to be the #1 running back in fantasy football, and even though the last time we saw him was two seasons ago, at that time he was still elite. If the stars are aligning and LJ does not return to the team to play by the regular season, Priest Holmes could step in and have an impact. The factors going against him are the layoff, though if he is in shape and plays in the preseason that will be minimized, and the fact the team is no longer very good around him. The best thing about the Chiefs would be the player he is replacing. The team he can’t control, but if he steps in as RB1, with 20 carries a game, you have to feel that he will probably produce.
The biggest issue here is your dilemma on how high either Larry Johnson or Priest should go on draft night. Even if LJ is not back by that time, you have to feel that he is not sitting a majority of the season. If Priest gets off to a decent start, that could only spell trouble for when LJ does return to the field as it will further complicate the platoon situation that would be in place. Both players could be a steal on draft night as LJ’s value is going down allowing him to be drafted outside of round one, while most are scared of Priest so he is going late in drafts but he could easily produce the numbers of a round one pick with the right amount of carries.
There is no simple solution at this time, especially without yet seeing Priest play at all in preseason. Let’s hope Priest has announces another dream to let us fantasy folk in on the right choice to make.
