We are almost done the first week of fantasy basketball already.  Kobe, T-Mac and LeBron have all had 40+ point games to maintain show off their status of elite fantasy basketball players.  The Big three in Boston came one Ray Allen three pointer away from each dropping 20 points.  Pierce had 28, while Garnett posted 22-20 game.  There were a number of other players who should be watched in case they are on your free agent list or in case you can vulture them in a trade with an unsuspecting other owner.

  1. Andrea Barganani - Perhaps no other player impressed me as much as Andreas this week.  Last year he simply shot a lot and hit little, but he looked like a guy who just didn’ty quite have his timing.  This year he is taking those same shots and knocking most of them down with ease.  He should have center status, and he may be a league leader in threes made by end of year.  Expect his blocks and rebounds to come up and he could challenge 18 points a game scoring quite easily.  Look to trade for him with a bigger name player, if you need any of these categories and your league owners haven’t been paying attention to how Andreas has played.
  2. Quincy Douby- Probably still on your free agent list.  Didn’t get much burn in game 1 for the Kings, but played the point for almost all of game two.  Might be who they turn to while Bibby is out, as they want Kevin Martin to remain the SG.  Douby won’t rack up a ton of assists on this team, but he could put up a solid line of 12 points, 5 assists and a couple threes.
  3. Martell Webster - After playing his first two years inconsistently (as expected coming out of high school), Webster looks to have found his confidence and a starting position at small forward.  He is an excellent source of threes and will give you about 12 points a game with a few boards and assists.   Probably on the waiver wire in 50% of leagues out there so take a look, he could continue to improve all season on this young Blazers team.
  4. DeSagana Diop- If you need blocks consider Diop.  He won’t give you much else, but with Dampier out he has received 30+ minutes in the first two games and has 10 blocks in those two games.
  5. Rashad McCants- Should still be on many free agent lists.  McCants is coming off injury and most have forgotten about him, especially on the Wolves team where Brewer is being hyped.   McCants was on my preseason sleeper list, because he has been shooting lights out.  He continued that into game one of the season where he was 3-7 from behind the arc and and dropped 23 points.  Not going to give you much in other categories, but will be good for points and threes.
  6. Udonis Haslem- Probably not a free agent, but you still might be able to get him cheap.  Antoine Walker was traded to ensure minutes for Haslem, and with Shaq playing limited time, Haslem is a big part of the Heat defense and offense.   Haslem is going to get you 10 rebounds a game, and could easily average 15 points to go with that.  Not a big blocks guy.
  7. Danny Granger- There should be no chance Granger is a free agent, but you steal may be able to steal him with another better name (not game) player.  Granger is probably equal with Jermaine as the top option on the Pacers offense and he is going to give you points, threes, boards and steals.  He will be moving himself towards a top fantasy player by the end of the season.
  8. Kelenna Azubuike - Has to make this weeks list after getting 30+ minutes in both of his two starts, and dropping 33 in his second game.  No idea if he is just off to a hot start, or if he has worked himself into a key piece of the Nellie GS offense.  A must watch though after those first two games.
  9. Daniel Gibson- Was on many sleeper lists to start the season and hasn’t disappointed yet.  He is really the only threat at PG for the Cavs, so with play like game two where he put up 24 points with 6 threes, I expect most team owners are flooding the waiver wire trying to get him.  He hasn’t played less than 33 minutes yet in those two games, so he looks to have a firm grasp on that PG position.  His main contribution is threes, but he can put them up in bunches.
  10. Tyrus Thomas- I guess game two was message received.  After a lackluster game 1, Tyrus had a 21 point, 12 rebound effort in game two.  After game one, many owners may have dropped him so see if he shows up on your waiver wire.  Her may be inconsistent, but if he starts to put up more games like his line above, he will be an a excellent source of points, boards and blocks.
