It may only be the second week of the season, but there are a number of players highly touted in the offseason and during preseason that deserve to sit on your free agent list, not your team roster.

Jason Kapono, Raptors- Kapono will be a decent source of threes as the season goes on if you are really hard up for that category, but Sam Mitchell goes with whoever is hot in his rotations, not set minutes.   One night Kapono may get 35 minutes and put up decent stats, but the next night it will be Delfino and then Joey Graham with a little rookie Moon thrown in.  The inconsistency will drive you crazy.  Look for threes eleswhere.

Kendrick Perkins, Celtics- If you grabbed Perkins expecting good rebounds, blocks and around 10 garbage points per game, then you should probably drop him.  If you are happy with 5 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block, then Perk may be for you.  With the way Garnett is cleaning the glass in Boston, and the fact Perk always get himself in foul trouble, he is not going to give you the hustle stats you expected, at least not better than most free agents that should be available.

Nene, Nuggets - If Nene could just stay healthy he would be a solid player in the Nuggets rotation.  But his injuries always leave him overweight and out of condition when he returns, and just when he works himself back into shape, he gets hurt again.  Currently he went down with torn ligaments in his thumb and is out 6 weeks, and this is while he was still trying to work himself back from a knee injury.  Drop him.

Larry Hughes, Cavs- I don’t care if Hughes returns from his current injury which is basically a “bruise”.  He is another player who can’t stay in the floor as he is always hurt.  He used to justify sitting a game here and there, with the stats he produced when playing, but these days even when he is healthy he is only good for about 10 - 4 - 4 with a couple steals.  Mix in all the DNP’s, and those stats aren’t what you need.  Try and trade him based on his name and if no-one bites drop him before he drives you crazy.

Luis Scola, Rockets - The rookie in Houston was predicted to be the starting PF coming out of preseason, but from game one forward Chuck Hayes has been starting and Scola has gotten worse with each game.  He was only going to give you 10-8 if he was playing well, and currently he is nowhere near that.  Drop him.

Mo Pete, Hornets - Mo Pete is playing good defense with the Hornets, but he is the last option amongst the starters on offense.  His shot is always inconsistent, and with fewer touches he simply is not going to put up the stats you need on a nightly basis.  If your in a deep league he may warrant one of your last spots, but don’t hesitate to drop him if you see a free agent you like.

Charlie Villanueva, Bucks- Villanueva was tagged as a sleeper going into the season, but for whatever reason, maybe it is Yi, or maybe he isn’t back in shape since last years injury (but that would be surprising given his strong preseason), but Charlie V is no part of the Bucks system right now.  I would be shocked if he wasn’t traded as Yi will continue to earn more and more minutes as this season goes and the team moves forward.  Charlie V isn’t getting minutes, and in the few he gets he isn’t doing anything with them.  Watch him for another couple games because he is a talented player, but if he doesn’t have a breakout game soon his value will be nil.

Rafer Alston, Rockets- Rafer isn’t playing that bad, but he is only getting a max of 24-27 mins a game due to competition at guard this year.  Mike James is taking away minutes and Steve Francis isn’t even really into the rotation yet.  Rafer will still be good for about 8 points and 6 assists, but until he can get 30+ minutes a game again, that is all you will see.

Al Thornton, Clippers- If you are in a keeper or dynasty league, or if you need to have an active rookie ignore this, but if you only took Thornton because you saw him lead the Clips in scoring in the preseason, don’t expect the same now.  Most minutes are going to go to Maggette and Tim Thomas, and that is with Brand out.  Thornton simply is not going to get the touches he did in preseason, and that is going to result in very average stats.

Dorrell Wright, Heat - If for some reason you drafted Wright even after Ricky Davis was traded to the Heat, drop him right away.  Wright had a horrible preseason and once Wade is back, he is not going to get any minutes.

Luke Ridnour, Sonics- Ridnour was hurt for opening night and he hasn’t regained his starting minutes yet.  He hasn’t even earned back platoon minutes as he has not had over 18 minutes yet this season.  With the offense based around Durant and Wilcox, it is going to be tough fro Ridnour to make any impact.  With the minutes he is getting right now he is not worth a spot on any roster.
