Just as us fantasy fanatics are gearing up for a healthy dose of NFL preseason, we seem to be getting hit with a daily dose of impact injuries.
There are the normal watch routines for Donavan McNabb and Kevin Jones, big name players coming off of injury last season, but there are some major injuries which have all been anounced in the past week that you have to keep an eye on as your draft approaches.
Frank Gore - the fastest rising RB on the board, maybe ever. He is being ranked top 5 everywhere and top 3 on some sites. Well Mr. Gore broke his hand and will be out at least the first 3 preseason games, and possibly all games until the regular season. This will do nothing to help him get his timing with Alex Smith, or adjusted to his new teammates, or simply maintain his conditioning and shake off the rust.
Terrell Owens - It is not a preseason if T.O. doesn’t have some ailment that concerns every fantasy owner. Well this one is being labelled a bad hammy, or tired legs depending on who you talk to or where you read. Tired Legs? Just what were you doing the past 5 months to get tired legs? Chasing Tony Romo for dropping that snap? Chalk this one up to normal T.O. activity and he will be fine.
Donald Driver - A bad shoulder has him out for an extended time and though he passed his last physical, it was strangely only a couple days after he failed the previous one. This is not good for Green Bay, anyone looking at drafting Driver or Favre. Driver is the main receiver on the field for GB, and this shoulder has been bothering him since last season and is still not better even after extended rest. Expect this to carry on into the regular season.
Chester Taylor - Has to leave the field with what is now being called a arm contusion. Well that doesn’t sound too bad at all, but what is bad is Adrian Peterson’s contract is all signed and that kid is ready to go. Any days where Chester is not getting the majority of the snaps, or allows AP to get more in rythm with the team is going to directly relate to him getting fewer carries. Chester needs to fight through every minor injury right now if he wants to keep his job for at least the start of the season.
Dominic Rhodes - Has a tweaked foot. Good news for you Jordan watchers. Jordan needs to avoid any platoon to have value in a weak Oakland offense.
Willie Parker - Is having knee swelling and soreness. Not much has been said yet, but he is already missing the first preseason game. This is really just one to watch and draft accordingly. Fast Willie has never been known as an injury prone player, so we have to hope that this is not going to be ongoing. A RB with a sore knee is not good.
Santana Moss - Is having lingering hip problems. Another watch item. Everyone expected that this would be a big year for Moss as he is more in tune with new QB Jason Campbell, but so far this injury has slowed him down to the point where the team is concerned.
