Maybe sleeper, maybe break-out players, but here are 5 who are ready to improve over last season.
Jerious Norwood - Dunn has continued to impress when noone thought he would. He darts in and out between defenses and gains yards while noone even notices. BUT, Dunn is getting older and Atlanta has never really won with Dunn even at his best. Norwood has gamebreaker ability. Watch for him to split with Dunn at the beginning of the year but take on more and more as the season goes. The team becomes his in his third year.
Vernon Davis - Very athletic. Has a better team around him. Didn’t gain as much momentum last year due to injury, but really played well at the end of the season. Eric Johnson is gone now, it is all for there for Davis to take over. SHould be a constant target for Alex Smith.
Edge James - When did Edgerrin James ever have to make a sleeper list? Well after a pretty bad year for him, all those fantasy forgetters push him way down the list. But this will be a much better year for Edge and he has no competition at all to steal carries on any down. Leinhart has two solid receivers to throw to, which in his second year in Zona will open up the field more for Edge. It won’t be Indy, but this guy shouldn’t be dropped as low as I have seen him.
Reggie Brown - This one is dependent on McNabb staying healthy. Brown is in that year 3 territory where receivers take off. As well Kevin Curtis will do all the dirty work over the middle and short routes, leaving the big plays and end zone threats for Brown. He needs to connect with McNabb early in season though, because once McNabb is in a rhythm with someone, he tends to stick with it. Brown was on a lot of sleeper lists last year and only marginally improved. He needs to do more this year.
Vincent Jackson - Seems to be on every sleeper list after how he ended last year, so no major surprises here, but at the same time don’t sleep on him to long. SD has never really had great receivers to go alongside LT. If Jackson proves able to carry that tag he could really explode since defenses are only paying attention to Tomlinson.
Deeper Sleep
Matt Shaub - Everyone says Shaub has noone to throw to… has no chance. If you can get him late as your backup QB it is a good gamble. Houston has improved most positions and Shaub is more mobile than Carr was giving him more time to make plays.
Anthony Gonzalez - the rook in Indy. Why does he have a chance? Because he is in INDY. Remember Stokley the year he was healthy? As that third receiver Stockley has big numbers - well AG is playing that role this year. Manning will always spread it around in the endzone so if he has teh hands, he has a chance to make a fantasy splash.
Eric Johnson - He opened the door for Vernon Davis, but he also opened the door for himself again. Great hands, no speed, often injured. If he stays healthy he will catch enough passes to be very valuable in points per reception leagues.
